Q & A
Frequently Asked Questions
A hair transplant procedure takes your own hair follicles from the back and sides of the head and transplants them to thinning or balding areas resulting in a very natural appearance.
Depending on your medical condition, or hair transplant surgeons can generally help you with your hair loss concerns. Please make sure to let your patient advisor know your concerns before meeting with the surgeon.
Generally, most people only require a single hair transplant procedure. There are, however, some cases that may require additional procedures to achieve the desired goal the patient is looking for depending on the degree of hair loss.
The FUT Strip procedure will leave a linear scar on the back of the head, whereas the FUE hair transplant procedure will not. Any scarring as a result of FUT is virtually undetectable. The donor area is covered by your own existing hair.
Local anesthesia is administered resulting in no pain being felt during the hair transplant procedure. The surgeon may provide medication to use after the procedure, if needed. Most patients find the medication post-procedure not necessary.
Using nature’s own building blocks for hair transplantation with follicular unit hair transplantation provides reliably good, natural results for life. There are situations, however, where the hairs can be lost later in life due to ageing or other medical reasons.
Eyebrow restoration is as much an art as a science. “Follicular units” are placed into tiny incisions in the desired brow pattern. Care is taken during this follicular unit transplantation (FUT) to place the hairs with precision, so they grow in the correct direction and at the same angle as the surrounding hair. The aesthetics of defining an arch that will naturally complement your underlying facial structure as well as your features, and provide the results you desire, requires both surgical and artistic expertise.
Grafts, also known as follicular units, are a tiny bundle of hairs which consist of anywhere between one and four hair follicles.
To achieve the best outcome from your procedure, it is important to establish whether or not you are a suitable candidate for a hair transplant. To do so, we need to ensure that your expectations match what is achievable by our surgeon, and your budget. We strongly recommend you discuss your expectations with your surgeon. Your surgeon will explain the different hair restoration techniques and what you can realistically expect from each one, and why. Patients who have realistic expectations are generally satisfied with their decision to proceed, and pleased with their results.

After a few days, the grafts will blend in with the existing hair.
During the first 1 to 3 weeks, new hairs will appear to be growing quickly.
Typically, hair growth starts within 2 to 4 months. Hair growth occurs in cycles, with each cycle starting a few days or weeks from the previous cycle.
By 6 months, most people can see the effect of the process, and by 12 months, the growth and bulk will have reached 90% of its total growth. Hair can, and sometimes does, continue to mature for as long as another 24 months following surgery.
The time a procedure will take will depend on the number of grafts being transplanted. Small sessions of up to 1,500 grafts can take close to 3-4 hours. Medium sessions of 1,500 to 3,000 grafts can take 4 to 6 hours and larger procedures of 3,000+ can take 6+ hours.
A second hair transplant procedure can be scheduled as early as 6 months after the previous procedure. Most patients will wait 1 year after their procedure for full growth of the previous transplant to confirm the results before starting the next.
A hair transplant provides you new hair in the balding area of the scalp but cannot prevent loss of existing hair. Please speak to your patient advisor and surgeon about available options that can help to prevent any further loss of your existing hair.
The FUT hair transplant method, commonly referred to as follicular unit transplantation or the ‘strip method’, involves the removal of a strip of skin from the donor area, usually at the back of the head. This strip is then divided into individual follicular units under a microscope, before being prepared for re-insertion into the recipient area.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE), sometimes referred to as follicular transfer (FT), is commonly used as an alternative to FUT when the scalp is too tight for a strip excision, and also enables the surgeon to harvest finer hair from the nape of the neck, often for use around the frontal hairline or even for a facial hair transplant, usually the eyebrows.
Not always. Both FUE and FUT present their own set of advantages and disadvantages. The ‘right’ method depends on your personal requirements. To answer this question we request that you submit an inquiry and we’ll contact you with our recommendations.
